Managing Imported News

Configure News Settings
To import News articles from www.caltech.edu, follow these instructions:
- Log in to the admin console on your site using the Log In link in the footer.
- In the sidebar, click News, and then choose News Import Settings from the flyout menu.

The difference between Tags and Sync Tags is that Tags are displayed to the Public. Sync Tags are only used for choosing which news synced from www.caltech.edu to display on your site.

- Select the News Tags and/or Sync Tags that match news articles that you want on your site by double-clicking them to move them to the list on the right.
- Press the green Save button on the bottom of the page.
- Your site will now display all articles tagged with any combination of the tags and sync tags you have chosen.

Displaying Only Selected Articles on Your Site
If the sets of news articles provided by a tag or sync tag are too broad for your site – for example, you want only news about genetics rather than all of "biological science & medicine" – you can use the News Management Dashboard to choose individual articles for your site.
The News Management Dashboard
The News Management Dashboard allows you to exercise additional control over individual articles from www.caltech.edu.
Let's say you want to bring a particular article from www.caltech.edu into your site, but you don't want any other articles that match the tags on that one. Or you want an article to show up in a specific News Block that's set up to display articles that have a particular Display Location. That's where the News Management Dashboard comes in.
To use it, click the News menu on the admin sidebar, then select News Management Dashboard from the flyout menu. This dashboard lists every news article from www.caltech.edu, including ones that don't currently display on your site. You can find the specific article you're looking for by searching, or by filtering the list in various ways.

Once you've found an article that you want to manage, hover over it in the list and click the Manage Article button. If the article is already displayed on your site (for example, because it is tagged with one of the sync tags your site uses), the "displayed on this site" checkbox will already be checked and you will not be able to uncheck it. But if this article is not already displayed on your site, you can add it to your news hub by checking the "displayed on this site" checkbox.
This form will also allow you to add any Display Location, Category, or Tag to the article. Adding a Display Location will cause the article to appear in any News Block that is configured to show articles with that Location.
These changes will only affect the article when viewed on your specific site. No change is made on www.caltech.edu or anywhere else.

Once you've made all the additions that you want to make to the article, click the green Save button, which will bring you back to the Dashboard. You will be able to see your own changes to the article in bold on this list.
